Gestalt Therapy - Gestalt Psychotherapy

Gestalt therapy gives permission to be exuberent, shows the potential to be creative and fully embrace life. The patterns we habitually live by are often incomplete or inappropriate for achieving that fulfilment. The focus is on gaining awareness now, so that we can take responsibility for the choices that we make for ourselves. Responsibility is the ability to respond. As a result we can live more fully in the present and find meaning in our inner and outer worlds.

Sandplay Therapy

By creating a safe and protected space, the therapist supports the client(s) in creating their world through the symbol(s). Each symbol represents a bridge between the unconscious and conscious world. By working further with the symbolic meaning more awareness can be gained. In working with children there is usually less verbal input, instead we encourage a follow up of painting, drawing or clay work.

Sand Tray Construction

A number of factors come into play when deciding how to build a sand tray that is suitable for sandplay therapy. The tray has to be large enough to contain sufficient sand to provide a base for the scene and enough space so the items that the user selects for displaying in the sand can be seen. It is important that the scene created in the sand tray can be viewed in its entirety without the need for the viewer to move their head. But practicality will place limits as to the sand tray size due to available space and the need to be able to move the equipment, as sand is quite heavy even when dry!...

Consciousness

Hope is an active principle. Being in a hopeful state is not a sitting back waiting for God/the Universe, another person to do things for me, to bring me riches or to change a difficult situation. Being hopeful is sitting positively with myself and the world. Will I be able to see the opportunities and challenges that arise? I need to have awareness of myself and others. Who am I? Do I have the courage to go within and meet myself? When I get to know myself more, I might start to see what I need and want and I might discover what I want to change. So I sit back and surrender and watch myself unfold. When I do that, I notice a space in my heart and when I breathe into the expansiveness within, hope streams in all directions.
